Corfu - Apartment rentals and
villas in Corfu for holiday accommodation in Greek Islands. Rental cottages apartments
and villas in Corfu owned privately
If
you are looking for a stunning sandy beach, probably the finest the island has
to offer, then Glyfada should be on your list. There are several bars and tavernas
around Glyfada beach as well as the usual hotels and a few apartments.
As
with all Greek names, there are various translations of the name into English!
I have spelling variations of Glifada and Gliffatha on some road maps. The signposts
though say 'Glyfada'.
Those
looking for a sandy beach, bucket and spade holiday. Of note, during August the
resort does become very crowded with Italians.
Type Soft,
golden sand.
Sunbeds Yes.
Included, is a small drinks table (with waiter service from the nearby tavernas),
a rubbish bin and ashtray.
Facilities Showers,
toilets, changing rooms and a first aid center.
Child
Suitability Soft sand - no nearby road to worry about. The waves at times can
become quite large though creating a strong current. Children should be supervised
at all times (as with all beaches). There is a flag system operating and life
guards patrolling in high season.
Accessibility There
is parking close to the beach - not sure if it is sufficient during peak times
though. During the summer there is a small charge - for May and October it is
free. From the parking areas are board walks to the sun bed areas.
Cleanliness and Urchins The
cleanest beach I have seen on Corfu. There are no Urchins.
Tourists
start the trip with a visit to Valcherna Monastery, builtd in the 13th century,
one of the symbols of the island. Moving on to the Kanoni Peninsula, tourists
can experience a superb view over the Pontikoniossi Island.
Then,
tourists will leave on a cruise along the coasts of the island discovering Kalypso
Star, Vidos island with its spectacular flora and fauna, Corfu City (Capital)
and the Glyfada beautiful beach.
